The conductors are configured in a helical formation, surrounded by an organic cotton-damped air-pocket dielectric and an RFI\/EMI-rejecting shielded sleeve, grounded at the source end only. The rest of the system consists\u00a0of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hifi-advice.com\/blog\/review\/digital-reviews\/spdif-dac-reviews\/ch-precision-c1-2-upgrade-listening-impressions\/\">CH Precision C1.2<\/a> DAC, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hifi-advice.com\/blog\/amplifier-reviews\/preamplifier-reviews\/ch-precision-l1-preamplifier\/\">CH Precision L1<\/a> preamplifier, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hifi-advice.com\/blog\/amplifier-reviews\/power-amplifier-reviews\/ch-precision-a1-5-part1\/\">CH Precision A1.5<\/a> power amp, and Magico S1 MkII speakers. Additionally, I also used the Apogee Duetta Signature and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hifi-advice.com\/blog\/review\/loudspeaker-reviews\/loudspeakers-passive-reviews\/driade-premium-model-9\/\">Driade Premium Model 9<\/a> loudspeakers.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Listening<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The cable comes with instructions on a leaflet stating that running in can be system dependent, but, as a guide, it is recommended to run in all Network Acoustics cables for 150-200 hours. I know there are still people out there who doubt that digital cables can make any difference, and others may tire of reading about digital cables, but, much to my delight, the muon2 is something out of the ordinary. I don&#8217;t know how they do it, but this cable has an uncannily similar sonic signature to the tempus switch, and perhaps less surprisingly, it also bears a resemblance to the eno2 Streaming Cable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To put this into perspective, compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hifi-advice.com\/blog\/review\/cables-reviews\/reviews-digital-cable\/jorma-design-aes-ebu-digital-cable\/\">Jorma AES<\/a> cable, the muon2 Balanced Digital Cable is more spacious and ethereal, and much airier. It has a light-footed and hugely delicate approach that feels lush and gentle yet very positive and upbeat. It&#8217;s a sunny and wide-open sound with immensely high resolution, but unlike many highly resolving cables, the muon2 is not dry or over-controlled, but deliciously liquid.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Mogami 3080 is a long-standing favorite, affordable, and essentially unremarkable, yet very neutral &#8220;standard&#8221; AES\/EBU cable. This is the kind of cable that recording engineers or broadcast facilities might use. During my initial impressions, the Mogami produced a tighter and more concrete rendition, but otherwise, it fell way behind the muon2, especially in terms of air, fluidity, and flow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To be on the safe side, I decided to let the cable run in a bit further while I attended to other tasks. When I returned to the system later the same day and repeated the comparison with the Mogami, I was surprised to find that muon2 had changed. Its aforementioned core qualities were still present undiminished, but after being used for a couple of hours, it had become crisper and tighter. Sure enough, the Mogami was no longer tighter or more concrete, instead merely &#8220;earthier&#8221; and more sober. Moreover, I now noticed that the cable had a mild roundness to it, and worse, a PVC-like, slightly synthetic timbre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How about that? I certainly did not see that coming. However, the <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-align: left;\">Muon 2 is still airier, more refined, and more spacious, and even though it has a slightly less crisp and direct sound, it delivers a more\u00a0<em>exciting<\/em> performance<\/span> with a more tangibly realistic feel. Importantly, the cable is genuinely unique in offering a spacious and free-flowing natural sound combined with rhythmically sure-footed pacing. And like before, the Mogami just sounds less natural, both in timbre and in terms of flow. One might argue that the Mogami&#8217;s entry-level price point renders it unrealistic competition. To that, I counter that this cable has held its ground against a very wide range of cables in all price categories, and throughout that time, it has not disappointed. Many things are relative (one might argue that everything in life is), but in audio, at least, I find this to be undoubtedly true. Cost indicates a hierarchical ranking, but it is not always a reliable indicator of quality, although the term itself is relative, as no two audiophiles seem able to agree on what constitutes a quality cable. All I will say is that other cables have frequently managed certain aspects better than the Mogami, but apart from the Jorma, it had not yet been surpassed this thoroughly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I repeated the tests using only one cable at a time. I expected to hear a worthwhile difference, but it was very subtle at best. Enabling an extra Zone in Roon has a greater influence, especially when linking two Zones and using them in tandem, but that&#8217;s unrelated to the cables. In any case, I was happy to find consistent results.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To ensure the results remained consistent, I switched back from the Grimm server to the Aqua La Diva M2 CD transport, only to find that the result was precisely the same.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I briefly mentioned the Jorma AES\/EBU. This was a cable that not just surpassed the Mogami but also made me switch. However, over time, it became apparent that this cable exhibited an unusually long bedding-in period, during which it continued to develop even after six months of use. Eventually, the cable had become very smooth and mild, which led me to return to the Mogami for its more direct and upfront delivery. This is not intended as a jab at Jorma, as I have also experienced this long-term effect with other products. As a reviewer, unfortunately, it is impossible to take such long periods into account; however, it is worth mentioning to raise awareness of the phenomenon. Whether the muon2 will remain stable in the long run is not something I can foresee. It has an appealingly spacious and airy sound with immensely high resolution, but unlike many highly resolving cables, it is not dry or over-controlled, but deliciously liquid. What makes this cable genuinely stand out is that, despite its smooth, natural, and relaxed nature, it has a tangibly realistic feel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
