This site started under the Dutch name www.audioadvies.nl, with the intention to provide an info-database for audiophiles, using all the experience that I gathered from my beloved hobby. After all, the audio world can be a confusing place because of all the different philosophies and opinions floating around on the internet.
It can be difficult to obtain truly objective reviews and info. That's why I decided to offer all the information that I found to be relevant neatly in one place.
Lateron, when I looked closer at the ever-growing list of components that have inhabited my system, I decided that I would write a short review of every component and place them in ever growing lists.
Still later I decided that the short reviews weren't enough and I started writing in-depth reviews. During the first 5 or so years, I did this entirely using my own funding but as the components became ever more exclusive and esoteric I realised that I needed to go about it in a different manner. I contacted some manufacturers and distributors and the ball started to roll.
The big, colorful paintings that can be seen on many pictures, are made by George Boonstra

Your reviews are one of the best and most detailed I've ever read.
With regards, Milos
I definitely wanted to develop a message to be able to express gratitude to you for all of the stunning tips you are showing here. My long internet lookup has finally been honored with pleasant knowledge to write about with my close friends. I 'd suppose that most of us readers are undoubtedly lucky to exist in a remarkable place with many brilliant people with insightful tips and hints. I feel truly happy to have discovered the web pages and look forward to so many more enjoyable minutes reading here. Thanks once more for a lot of things.
Hi dear christiaan,
I am very interested with your web-site specialy about your comments, as i found them trusty and not like HiFi magazins exagerated and directional.
I am confused to buy one of these.
What good job you are doing with your pleasantly written, short yet relevant reviews on new and vintage audio! A relevation among all those either very high-tech or believe-driven 'reviews' that usually dominate the web.
Best wishes, continue doing a good job!
Hi from down under.
I stumbled upon your website and love it, I'm thoroughly addicted and constantly looking for new reviews.
I am a PS Audio Perfect wave Dac MKII user and can't wait for your thoughts on the 2.03 firmware, and it's free.
Keep up the great work.
I enjoyed the Klimax DS/0 DS/1 review and comparison. I'm amazed that streaming audio is taking big steps everywhere, the PS Audio PWD upgraded, Klimax upgraded. When will we reach the full potential of streaming audio?
Hi, your web-site is wunderfull, your reviews are accurate and precise, no comercial influencie here !
Thank you for this !
I found your website to be very informative and certainly very objective. It is certainly refreshing to see someone refrain from offering an opinion on a component that they have not heard or had the time to properly evaluate it.
I love your website! Surfing hifi-advice.com doesn't make me wanna sigh and shake my head as many other hifi-sites do. Browsing here gets me in a good mood! And that's rare for surfing hifi. Keep it up!
Hello Christiaan Punter
I am a Danish HiFI reviewer, working for the Scandinavian magazine Fidelity (www.audiofidelity.no), and I want to tell you what a wonderfull website you have made. It´s not often, that I see so much information, perfectly lay-out and easy to read and understand. Thanks! ;=)
First I have to say I love your website and the honesty you put in your
tests. In a few words I can learn more stuff than in a french commercial
hifi magazine !! The way you compare items or regroup them in the same
sound style is really helpful. You must spend so much time in these tests,
I stumbled on different articles mentioning sonic differences between wav and flac. Like always, you have very interesting points of view and I like the fact that you say what you think, no matter what others will say. Bravo !
Just wanted to tell you how wonderful your website is - please keep it up ! It is very refreshing to find a hi-fi site with such knowledgable reviews, no advertisement, and no preconceptions...
Thank you !
now i have found your website.
You are totally crazy ! But respect, for your knowledge about high-end.
Why don't you work as a writer for a highend-magazin ?
I've been discovering your site with great interest. thank you very muh for all the work done. The point I like particulary, is that most of the time, pros and cons are highlights, wich help to get a clearer idea of a product, instead of incredibly detailing what is good....and not talking about the rest. next is that you don't fear comparing products, and finally, the fact that you seems to care about system synery ;-)
Dear Christiaan ,
I'm looking for some trustworthy advice that it's difficult to find in audigon, audiocircle, computeraudiophile, headfi, etc... because of all the noise and shills.
Thanks a lot. Santiago Madruga
by chance I found your excellent website while looking for information regarding the Ayre QB 9 DAC and I am glad that I found your website. It is an excellent source full of information and what I do like the most is that you actually compare components side by side.
Your review of the Ayre QB 9 is very helpful since you really "played around" with it trying different USB-cables, different power cords and last but not least different computers with different operating systems and different software players. This way you got probably 100% of what the DAC can do.
Best regards and greetings from Germany,
A reader of Computer Audiophile recently directed me to your website. I am very impressed by your writing and really like what you're doing on HiFi-Advice.
I have now bookmarked your site. Keep up the good work :~)
Great reviews you have done on the various computer USB interfaces, and the software involved. As always, very thorough.
I would like to congratulate you for your incredible site, it is amazing the amount of knoledge an non comercial information that you are sharing, it is so difficult in the high end world. Since I discovered your web some years ago I have not stop to read your great articles even the ones in holland languages (using a translator). In fact your web site is for me the mayor influence for High End.
thank you very much again for all your help with your website.
I have just discovered your site thanks to a link in a ComputerAudiophile thread. Man, I like it :D
I have come to the same conclusions, on topics where I have enough knowledge to cross your own experience.
Anyway I am so glad I discovered your site.
Keep up posting your uncompromised experience !

First of all i would like to thank you for the helpful review you have done, i just bought an arcam rdac.
Your website is the official website for me when Jeff Rowland equipment is concerned!
thanks and keep up the great work!
My reviews have always been and still are entirely honest and as objective as possible. I never make a secret of what I like and what I don't like. The reviews have always been and still are written in an entirely consistent manner, using a well-known reference setup, which is always described in detail. My methods haven't changed: no matter if a component is my own or if it is borrowed for review: my reviews will always be 100% honest. Promise.
What started as a simple Dutch site with a small audience, grew to be an internationally known website with interesting articles and in-depth reviews covering every corner of the hifi hobby, although lately the prime driver for this site is Next-Gen Audio. This covers extensive reviews of digital audio, computer audio and streaming audio equipment.
It is my continuing aim to offer more and more objective, in depth reviews as well as extensive and interesting information. I hope that you'll enjoy your reading on hifi-advice.com!
